This is a very common question. Ideally, the dead of winter is the best time to prune. Pruning during this dormant period is:
- less stressful to trees
- minimizes the risk of fungus infection or insect infestation
- allows you to better see the overall shape and structure of the tree
Unfortunately, winter dormancy pruning is not always practical. Non-dormant pruning is acceptable, but needs to be done carefully and selectively. Pruning of fruiting and flowering trees is more season specific. Your personal consultant at Northwest Tree Specialists can help with those questions.
Important: If you have dead, broken, or hazardous branches in your trees that you are concerned about, please call us right away so that we can get someone out to your property as soon as possible to minimize the potential for property loss or personal injury.
